You will find that if there is someone close to you in the family, like a parent, grandparent, or sibling, has heart disease, then, you are at great risk for it. Keep in mind that heart disease is genetic and it can be passed down to future generations.

Also, you should know that there are many ways that you can avoid heart disease too. Simply by watching what you eat, exercise, and also watching the cholesterol intake, you will be able to reduce your risk of heart disease. However, just because you watch what you eat and treat your body right still won't guarantee that you will not be affected by heart disease. Basically, you will find that even the healthiest people can take a heart attack; however, you will greatly reduce your risk for a heart attack and heart disease.

As for the statistics, you will find that over 61 million Americans are affected by heart disease. You probably even know someone yourself that has trouble with heart disease and controlling their high blood pressure or cholesterol. The disease is more than just high blood pressure and high cholesterol, you will also find that things like hardening of the arteries, heart attacks, chest pain, and strokes are all apart of heart disease.

As to explain what exactly heart disease is, you will find that it has everything to do with the cardiovascular system. It also has to deal with the blood vessels and how the heart will pump blood through out the entire body. As you know the blood will carry the oxygen to all the cells and organs throughout the body. You will want to keep in mind that the way that the body flows does affect the way the body receives the oxygen needed to keep the body going strong and healthy.

It is very important that you consider heart disease serious. This is something that can be deadly and it has caused thousands of people to die each year. Next to cancer, it is among the leading cause for death. You will want to take your situation seriously by paying attention to your doctor's instructions and so on. You will find that there are many people who have to deal with heart disease; however, you will want to take care of yourself so that you can life a long and healthy life.
